SOS

Synopsis: Poet–actor Dimitris Katsimanis, already carrying the weight of seventy odd years, lives with his “peculiar” brother in a small house – a “shed”, as he calls it. The poet is in danger. Man is in danger. The poet declares the revolution. Hamlet winks playfully at us as he exclaims: “To be or not to be?”

Directors’ Note: We stumbled upon Dimitris Katsimanis, one of the most distinctive second role actors in Greek cinema, totally by chance. His professional card introduced him as acteur poete. Although he doesn’t strike you as being someone of interest at first glance, for some strange reason, the very next day we looked him up on the internet where we mostly found gossipy articles about the legal dispute with his sister and his eviction that forced him to become homeless for a certain amount of time.
As if by a miracle, we came across a forgotten, unfinished tv show, “The Eyes of Acting”, that he appeared on in 1993 on a small tv channel. And it was then, because of that tv show, that we decided to make a documentary on the past, the present and the future of the poet-actor. We contacted him and told him of our idea.
From the first days of shooting our instinct was justified. We had in front of us a marvelous deranged poet and an amazing actor (whenever he managed to be on set). By his side, his brother, Yiannis, a person with disabilities, who not only animates and defines him but also contributes to the expression of everything absolute and particular about the artist, about the man who manages to weave yesterday into today in the most natural way and with no great effort.
So, we present to you the documentary SOS, where Dimitris Katsimanis, in the role of his life plays… Mr. Dimitris Katsimanis in a world “on fire”.
