Logline: Elpida is awarded a scholarship that offers her a way out of an oppressive marriage and a chance to leave with her ten-year-old son. When her husband realizes he is losing control over her, his abuse escalates to a point of no return.

Director’s Statement: Inspired by the screenplay of “FREEDOM” by Dimitris Pelekis, a male sensitive yet incisive perspective on the female psyche, I felt the need to speak about violence before it becomes news. Before it reaches its extreme form. Before another woman is added to yet another statistic and we all wonder how we failed to see the signs.

The film follows a gradual escalation of tension, where emotional decay, rejection, control, and emotional abuse slowly infiltrate the characters’ everyday life. I was interested in observing how a deeply dysfunctional relationship can be disguised as family normality, and how behaviours that should alarm us gradually become accepted over time.

At the centre are Elpida and her child. A child is never a neutral observer. A child is a recipient absorbing fear, silence, and tension, transforming them into an internal reality. And that reality is perhaps the most underestimated field of violence.

This film does not aim to “show” violence, but to reveal the mechanism that generates and protects it, while also suggesting ways of anticipating and escaping it. Violence does not appear suddenly. It is permitted, normalised, and eventually rendered invisible. And by the time it becomes visible, it is already too late.
